Upcoming Meetings:

Our Heritage Presents: Gripping Tales of Gore and Ghostly Goings-on!
Monday 28 October - St Catharines at 7.45pm

Established in 2018 and granted charitable status (SCIO, Reg No. SC053090) in 2024, Our Heritage Blairgowrie & Rattray was founded to provide a public facing organisation with the explicit goal of collating, interpreting and displaying historical information relating to Blairgowrie, Rattray and the surrounding area. The ultimate aim of the group is to work towards the development of a permanent local history and heritage facility in Blairgowrie, in order to display various local collections of photography, physical artifacts and documentation. Initially our activities took the form of pop-up physical exhibitions and events, however during the pandemic this pivoted to online-first delivery, with our website, online timeline and YouTube channel launching in the summer of 2021.

This history of the area is unique, with a historical economy based on both industrial and agricultural activities, with mills and heavy industry sitting alongside farming and food production in a rural context. Both sectors supported large workforces drawn from across Scotland and the world, giving rise to a unique cultural mix with early influences both from the rural travelling community, highland farmers, lowland urban millworkers and engineers being supplemented more recently by agricultural labourers from across Europe.

We aim as an organisation to document, interpret and celebrate this unique range of diverse influences, and through a range of physical installations and events, both online and off raise awareness of this locally.

It consists of members of all the relevant local organisations:

  • Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Local History Trust,
  • Genealogy Group,
  • Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Council,
  • Blairgowrie & Rattray Development Trust &
  • The Blairgowrie Players.
